Publication of GP net earnings 2017/2018

Further to your request I have now completed the calculation in respect of the GP net earnings for 2017/2018 required for publication on the practice website. Please note that the figure calculated includes only core NHS income and is split between the number of doctors working at the practice for more than six months regardless of whether they were full or part time, therefore, it is not representative of the actual net earnings per partner as shown in the practice accounts.

Based on the accounts for the year ended 30 June 2017 I have calculated the mean GP earnings figure and would suggest that the following paragraph be published on the practice website:

“All GP practices are required to declare the mean earnings (e.g. average pay) for GPs working to deliver NHS services to patients at each practice.

However, it should be noted that the prescribed method for calculating earnings is potentially misleading because it takes no account of how much time doctors spend working in the practice and should not be used to form any judgement about GP earnings, nor to make any comparison with any other practice.

The average pay for GPs working in Marfleet Group Practice in the last financial year was £112,029 before tax and National Insurance. This is for 3 full time GPs and 3 part time GPs who worked in the practice for more than six months.”
